Hydrate Skin & Boost Collagen

From our mid-20’s onwards we start losing roughly 1% of our skin's collagen each year. By the age of 70 it is estimated that we have lost up to half of what we started with. Factors like sun exposure, pollution, chronic stress and smoking can speed this process up. Collagen is the most abundant protein in the skin making up around 80% of the dermis. It is the internal scaffolding keeping the skin firm and elastic. As we lose it we start to notice the skin becoming thinner, stretchier and more ‘fragile.’ At the same time, our natural hyaluronic acid levels also begin to fall. Hyaluronic acid is the molecule responsible for holding water in the skin, so as levels drop, the skin can start to look dryer and duller.

Slowing this process down starts with the basics: good sun protection and consistent skin care. If your goal is to improve skin quality, there are also treatments that can stimulate new collagen production or restore hydration from within. You might hear these referred to as biostimulants, bioremodellers or skin boosters. Whilst these all work in different ways, they all aim to improve the overall health and quality of this skin, from the inside-out. Common treatment areas include face, under eyes, neck, decollete and hands. Book in for a complimentary chat to see if any of these treatments may be suitable for your skin.
